Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a spiral galaxy located 65 million light years away in the constellation of Cetus at a declination of -6 degrees.  It is a magnitude 11 galaxy which spans 5 arc-minutes in our apparent view.  This corresponds to a diameter of 90,000 light years.  We are viewing this galaxy about 15 degrees from edge-on.

The arm structure of this galaxy is interesting.  The arms are fragmented and only appear in the inner section of the disk.  The arm structure on the right side is more defined than that on the left, which may be because the right side is nearer to us and the left far side is somewhat diffused by dust and the galactic halo.  The outer half of the galaxy disk is diffuse with no apparent arm structure.
